How much curtain fabric do I need?

Multiply the track width by the fullness (about 2 for a gathered look) and divide by the fabric width to get the number of fabric widths. Multiply that by the drop plus header and hem allowance for the total fabric length.

What is curtain fullness?

Fullness is how much wider the fabric is than the window so the curtain gathers. 1.5× is light, 2× is standard and 2.5× is luxurious.

How much extra for hems?

Allow roughly 25 to 35 cm in total per drop for the top header and bottom hem; large patterns need extra to match.

How it's calculated

The track width times the fullness is the total gathered width; divided by the fabric width and rounded up gives the number of fabric widths (drops) to cut. Each drop is the curtain height plus the header and hem allowance. Total fabric is the drops times the cut length.

Widths = ⌈track × fullness ÷ fabric width⌉. Fabric = widths × (drop + allowance). Add extra for pattern repeats.
