How it's calculated
A round steel bar's weight per metre is its diameter squared divided by 162 — a constant that bundles steel's density with the area of a circle when diameter is in mm and length in metres. Multiply by total length for the weight.
Weight (kg) = (d² ÷ 162) × total length in metres.

Does this work for any diameter?
Yes — the d²/162 rule applies to all round TMT/mild-steel bars.
Is this the same as bar bending schedule weight?
It gives the unit and total weight; a full BBS also accounts for bends, hooks and laps in the cutting length.
