How it's calculated

The principal is compounded at the chosen frequency: maturity equals principal times (1 + rate ÷ (100 × n)) raised to (n × years), where n is the number of compounding periods a year. Quarterly compounding — used by most Indian banks — means n is 4.

Maturity = P × (1 + r/(100n))^(n × t). Interest = maturity − principal. Interest is taxable at your slab; TDS may apply.

Frequently asked questions

Cumulative or payout FD?
This assumes a cumulative FD where interest compounds. A payout FD pays interest out, so it doesn't compound.
Senior citizen rates?
Seniors usually get 0.25–0.75% extra — just enter the higher rate.
What about TDS?
This shows gross maturity. Banks deduct TDS on interest above the threshold unless you file Form 15G/15H.
